Our pottery studio

A friendly place to enjoy clay

The Pottery Hut is a community pottery studio set in a residential street near to Bexleyheath Broadway, and frequent buses.

There is some on-street parking, a local car park, and the railway station is seven minutes' walk away.

We offer a rolling programme of six week all ability pottery workshops on week days and evenings. These groups have become extremely popular pottery communities; we have waiting lists for people interested in joining at some time in the future.

We can also arrange pottery painting sessions, and potters wheel experiences as private events for families or groups of friends.

Who we are

We have over twenty years' experience introducing local people to the joy of making things with clay. Both of us have worked as pottery technicians and tutors in local adult education, and also make and sell our pots.

Our shared dream has been to have our own studio, where we can welcome people of all abilities to play with clay.

We know the benefit to our well-being of meeting others, and being creative. Setting aside a weekly morning, afternoon, day or evening for pottery can become the highlight of each week.

It happened that way for us!

Here is a gallery of some of our work. Click the thumbnails to see the full images.

We charge a competitive £10 per hour, so our six week blocks are priced at £120. We timetable around bank holidays and local school terms, so occasionally a block is 5 weeks, in which case this is £100.

In addition to these course fees, there will be a charge for each piece of pottery you want fired. This will be calculated by weight. This charge is designed to cover the costs to us of the materials used, and electricity for firing the kiln. Our current price is £3/kg dry weight. It is possible that we will need to revise this cost if material or electricity prices rise, but we will let you know and you can scale your pots to keep them affordable. Small can be very beautiful!

What will you make?

We will support you to improve your pottery skills, and make original pots to be proud of.

The Pottery Hut studio has five potter's wheels, and space for eight people to work comfortably at a bench for hand building. When you book a block of six classes, you will choose wheel or bench for that block, (at the same price) and we will allocate a space to you. When you start, we will find out what you want to learn or practice. We are ready to teach you as an absolute beginner, or someone with any level of potting experience. The community nature of The Pottery Hut makes it a place to share ideas, inspire, and encourage one-another. Make great pots, and great friends.
